Guide to Russia > Russian visa file REGISTRATION ►Don’t forget to register your visa. It’s serious. When in Russia, you must register your visa if you are staying the in the country for more than 3 days. Registration is usually done by placing a stamp on the back of your immigration card. Do not lose this stamped card; you will need it to leave the country. Who can register me? You should ask the person or organization that arranged your invitation – they will know the best way, and will probably even take care of it for you. While this will cost you a little extra, it is worth it – life is too short to spend on paperwork, especially in a foreign country. Our partners City Realty and Express to Russia both offer registration services. If you are staying in a hotel, your visa will be registered automatically, for a fee from 50c to $5. If you are staying in a mini-hotel, a vacation apartment or with friends, your visa should still be registered. This is usually done by purchasing one night in a cheap hotel and asking them to register your visa for the duration of your stay or using a travel agency. Do I really need to bother? Yes. We highly recommend that you register your visas because the police are becoming much more diligent in checking people on the street for registration. Also, without registering a visa, you may have problems leaving the country. And as wonderful as Russia is, it is good to have the option to leave. |
